Unplanned I headed
up the short and easy slopes of High Rigg to possibly get above the
inversion.
Sheep appears oput of the
mist.

High Rigg Summit-honest!
From here we headed round to Mosedale to do the main walk of the
afternoon.

Cloud breaks as we enter
Mosedale.

Grainsgill Beck and Knott
behind with our ascent being up the shoulder.

Looking down into
Mosedale from the bracken covered slopes of Knott.

Carrock Fell across
Mosedale.

Blencathra over the silver
ribbon of the River Caldew.

Coomb Height and the dogs look onwards
towards our next point, Knott.

High Pike from Knott summit with a hint
of the cloud inversion to the north.

The panorama to the west. Blencathra on
the left through to Skiddaw.

Mosedale from the head of Grainsgill
Beck.

The approach to the Lingy Hut.

The visitors book and assorted items in
the hut. The hut was surprisingly tidy however dont rely on the water
supply form the tap on the outside!

Carrock fell from the Lingy Hut.

Following a section of the Cumbria Way
towards High Pike.

High Pike summit. Not only clear blue
skies but there was not a breath of wind and as warm as a good day in May
or June.

Taking liberties as they are not allowed
on the furniture at home!

Taking in the afternoon sun.

Over a cloud covered Solway is the
"island" of Criffell in Dumfries and Galloway.

Carrock Fell and a bank of cloud.

Zeta, the 10 year old puppy bounds along
the track to Carrock Fell.

A distant view of the North Western
fells.

Carrock Fell from near Milton Hill.

Amongst the heather.

Carrock Fell summit at 6pm. the advantage
to walking at this time was that for the whole walk we had seen no other
person.

Towards Skiddaw.

Evening mist around the Mell Fells.

Rosy Glow on Carrock Fell.

Skiddaw and the Caldew valley at dusk.
From the summit of Carrock Fell I had to make a contoured descent via
Brandy Gill back to the car.

The sun sinks as I drop down into the
valley. The end of a great afternoon walk on the pleasant northern fells.
